Catfish Day 2021

Catfish Day

I don't know anything about politics. I wouldn't put too much into my prediction on politics.

Norm MacDonald

Catfish Day is a holiday that dates back to June 25, 1987, when U.S. President Ronald Reagan opened a presidential address by speaking about the culinary pleasures of eating catfish, and farmed catfish in particular. The President then went on to explain how catfish farming was creating both a stable income for farmers and an affordable food source for Americans.

The holiday is now traditionally celebrated on the anniversary of President Reagan’s address. It is observed primarily in the United States, by preparing and eating catfish.

Catfish are any fish from a number of species that usually feature whisker-like barbels near the mouth. They are usually bottom-feeders in freshwater, and many species are farmed or fished for food. Although catfish is a popular dish in many regions, it is extremely popular as a breaded and fried dish in the southern United States, where its popularity indirectly led to the creation of the holiday.

Several American cities now have festivals known as “Catfish Days” in late July, featuring sporting events, fairs, and other activities.

Arborist Appreciation Day 2021

Arborist Appreciation Day

I feel impelled to speak today in a language that in a sense is new-one which I, who have spent so much of my life in the military profession, would have preferred never to use. That new language is the language of atomic warfare.

Dwight D. Eisenhower

Arborist Appreciation Day is about taking the time to appreciate all of the important things that arborists do in their work and the sacrifices they make. It’s a dangerous job and the people who dedicate their lives to it often get overlooked because people don’t quite appreciate how risky and how vitally important the job is. There’s more to it than you might assume and Arborist Appreciation Day aims to raise awareness of the importance of these professionals.

History of Arborist Appreciation Day

If you don’t know already, arborists are the people who care for trees and cutting them down when they pose some sort of risk. They look after trees in forests and public parks, as well as those on private property. It’s impossible to achieve a successful approach to health and safety without their work because, in certain situations, trees can be a genuine danger.

Their work often goes unseen and underappreciated because, after all, they’re just trees, right? Well, not really. Arborists are there when there’s a heavy storm or some sort of natural disaster. Trees can be big, heavy and life-threatening, especially when there’s a disaster or storm. They work tirelessly to make sure that these trees don’t cause anyone any unnecessary harm.

Another thing that lots of people don’t realize is that many arborists put themselves in harm’s way to keep other people safe. They are often seriously injured and in some cases killed when doing their work. It’s risky work but someone has to do it in order to keep the public safe. They’re true public servants, but without the recognition often given to the emergency services.

How to Celebrate Arborist Appreciation Day

The point of Arborist Appreciation Day is to make sure that these people get the recognition they deserve. So, in terms of how you should celebrate Arborist Appreciation Day, the most important thing is to say Thank You! It’s something that most of us don’t do or don’t get the chance to, but it’s time we made the effort.

You could hold an event in your community to thank them for their tireless work. But even something as simple as posting on social media and raising awareness of them and their vital work is a good thing. Anything that makes more people are of the work of arborists and how much they risk and sacrifice for public safety has to be a good thing.

Anything you can do celebrate arborists in your community will help show them that they are appreciated. Small gestures can mean a lot and prove to these professionals that their work does not go unnoticed, and that’s important.

With the arrival of Arborist Appreciation Day, more and more people will start to recognize the vitally important work done by arborists around the world. Whenever there’s a natural disaster or something like that, arborists play a part in making people safer and potentially saving lives, so it’s time they were appreciated as much as they deserve to be.

To celebrate Arborist Appreciation Day, we have special activities and deals!

Trails Day 2021

Trails Day

Social media is a giant distraction to the ultimate aim, which is honing your craft as a songwriter. There are people who are exceptional at it, however, and if you can do both things, then that's fantastic, but if you are a writer, the time is better spent on a clever lyric than a clever tweet.

Bryan Adams

There’s a past-time that brings adventure no matter where you do it, and that past-time is hiking. Each year millions of people take to the great outdoors, hiking paths new and old in search of themselves and the love of nature.

Trails Day celebrates these intrepid souls and all the unexplored areas of the world where nature still reigns supreme. Hiking is good for the soul, and for your health, getting into the great outdoors has been proven to aid in non-clinical depression and an overall sense of well-being.

History Of Trails Day

This celebration was organized by americanhiking.org with the intent of bringing together all muscle-powered trail sports enthusiasts and raising awareness of them to bring in even more.

Thousands of events are hosted all over the country attracting new hikers and old alike and helping to organize people to take care of the trails so that they can remain open for everyone to enjoy.

There are more than 200,000 miles of trails in America alone, and it takes the combined efforts of enthusiasts everywhere to keep them active and clear for people to enjoy.

Getting out into the wilderness is a great way to find new adventures, with beautiful natural discoveries being made by those who get out there.

Whether you’re hiking, biking, or horseback riding, Trails Day is the perfect opportunity to get back out onto the trails. Trails can vary in range from under a mile to the 2,200-mile-long trail that is the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, known among enthusiasts as merely A.T. 31 trail clubs work to maintain this trail, along with multiple partnerships and organizations including the National Park Service and the United States Forest Service.

The history of Trails Day stretches back more than fifty years. Historically, there were no government-mandated trails. Starting in October 1968, however, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Trails Act into law, which established a network of trails that people could use for tourism and recreation. Over the years, the system developed, and local authorities added new sections, boosting outdoor pursuits.

Nearly a decade later, in 1976, the Hiking Society became an official organization and began hosting board meetings. In the following years, there were a series of additional initiatives designed to expand the number of trails available to people, encouraging more of them to get out and explore them. By 1987, a Presidential task force concluded that there was still a need for more government commitment to expand the network of trails to safeguard the environment. The federal authorities, the report stated, needed to make more funds available so that local officials could develop the pathways and protect their natural resources.

The issue of trails soon developed into something of a political hot potato. By 1990, the Trails Agenda Project borrowing from the President’s Commission on Americans Outdoors recommended that the country embark on a “trails for all project.” There needed to be outdoor recreational options for everyone, they concluded.

In 1991, the Hiking Society met to discuss how to improve the trails’ network and what they could do. They came up with the idea of developing a scheme to encourage volunteers to join the trail maintenance network and highlight the issue of trails in the public consciousness. Two years later, in 1993, the society launched the first Trails Day, and it has been running ever since. Thanks to the incredible enjoyment that trails provide people, they are worth celebrating. More than 157,000 people took part in the 20th anniversary trails day celebration.

How to celebrate Trails Day

There are, of course, plenty of ways to celebrate Trails day. The most obvious is to get out there on the trails and start hiking! With thousands of miles in the US alone, there are new places to see and new sites to discover for everyone. If you are already an enthusiast who wants to help maintain the trails we have in the world, you can either volunteer with one of many organizations that help to maintain them, like the Appalachian Trail Conservatory.

Another fun way to celebrate the day is to do so with your dog. There are now thousands of miles of trails in practically every locality, and the vast majority of them admit your furry friend. Spending a day on the trails with your pooch can be an excellent way for both of you to bond and get exercise.

If hiking isn’t your thing, you can ride the trails instead on a decent off-road bicycle. Dogs love running alongside pedal-powered owners, and it can provide them with excellent exercise.

Are you more of a social media fiend? If so, then you can highlight the benefits that trail hiking brings to society on your social media account. You could also live-stream your adventures, getting other people interested in all the fun to be had out in nature.

Finally, you might want to take part in an impromptu trail maintenance party. These are where trail enthusiasts gather together to maintain trails. Remember, trails don’t last forever. People like you must join with teams of volunteers to help keep them in good condition for enthusiasts to use in the future.

So get your bags packed and head on out into the great beyond on Trails Day, who knows what beauty you’ll discover? Everyone deserves a little inner peace, and you can discover yours on the trails!

Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Month 2021

Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Month

Creativity has got to start with humanity and when you're a human being, you feel, you suffer. You're gay, you're sick, you're nervous or whatever.

Marilyn Monroe

Like many syndromes and disorders, they’re hard to prevent, difficult to diagnose at an early age, and generally have no cure. Prader-Willi Syndrome is one of those disorders. Because it can happen in any family, it affects about one in 12,000 to 15,000 people each year in the United States alone. Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Month is a holiday dedicated to informing people about this condition to help families out there in need of answers.

History of Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Month

Prader Willi Syndrome was discovered and first diagnosed in 1956 by Swiss doctors Andrea Prader, Alexis Labhart, and Heinrich Willi. After they observed nine children with common characteristics, such as small hands and feet, weak muscles from birth, intellectual disabilities, on-set childhood obesity, and constant hunger, they were able to determine that thee symptoms were caused by a disorder that wasn’t named yet. Today, doctors can determine this syndrome through genetic testing, as they have now found that this syndrome is caused by an abnormality of chromosome 15, which results in the dysfunction of the hypothalamus, or the part of the brain that controls functions such as hunger, emotions, fertility, and body temperature.

Prader-Willi is part of a spectrum, similar to Autism and ADHD, which means infants and children could have a varying degree of symptoms and be misdiagnosed as a result. As more research became relevant, the holiday itself began to form. In 2009, representatives Ed Royce and Jane Harman introduced the holiday to the House of Representatives in the United States. From there, it passed as an official month-long holiday to be observed. Organizations such as the Foundation for Prader-Willi research and the Prader Willi Syndrome Association now sponsor the holiday as one of their main events for fundraisers and contests, where the money collected will go towards research to help families manage and treat the disorder.

How to celebrate Prader-Willi Syndrome Awareness Month

If you feel strongly about this cause, one of the best places to go for resources and information is to visit websites for organizations such as the Prader Willi Syndrome Association or the Foundation for Prader-Willi research and donate money towards their cause. Share this holiday on social media using the hashtag #praderwillisyndromeawarenessmonth and help inform people about what this syndrome is, how common is it, and how other people can help raise awareness.

Celebration Lupus Awareness Month May 2021

Lupus Awareness Month

Lupus may sound like an exotic, rare disease, but it’s not one to be overlooked. Like many other life-threatening autoimmune diseases, it is important to know the early warning signs of Lupus so that any sufferers may begin battling it early on, even though it’s a very tough disease to identify.

Lupus Awareness Month is observed in May and aims to increase understanding amongst the general public – not just medical professionals – of what this disease can do and why it’s so key to know the facts.

The history of Lupus Awareness Month

Lupus is an incurable disease, but there do exist treatments which can make living with it more manageable and improve the prognosis of the patient significantly. It cannot be transmitted from person to person, but it does seem to appear more frequently in people who have a history of it in their families.

Lupus is a tricky disease to catch because it is often mistaken for other afflictions, which means it can go undetected for years without even the person affected knowing. Amongst other symptoms, sufferers may exhibit a fever, tiredness, an increase in mouth ulcers and may even develop arthritis.

A common symptom of a lupus sufferer can often be seen on the skin of the face; a bright red rash which runs from the bridge of the nose, under the eyes and across the cheeks. Because of its this, this is often known as the ‘butterfly rash’. This butterfly rash is one of the most commonly associated symptoms of the disease – in fact, it is likely to be where it got its name from, with a part of its scientific name lupus erythematosus – ‘erythroid’ being derived from the ancient Greek word for ‘red’.

Lupus can be diagnosed by use of various types of blood testing. However, the Lupus Foundation of America estimates that a massive 5 million people across the world are living with lupus, and a large number of these people don’t even know it.

How to Observe Lupus Awareness Month

Education and research are essential if we are ever to find a cure for lupus – and this month, perhaps you can help out. Help to spread awareness about the disease by starting conversations on social media, or run some fund raising events for lupus research charities. Lupus is a mysterious and damaging disease, and until a cure can be found, do your bit in May by observing Lupus Awareness Month.

History has provided us with writers of every type, and books ranging from simple poetry to philosophy and complex scientific concepts. With so much exciting content in the world to read, it’s amazing there aren’t more people getting caught reading every day. In 1999 it was decided that there needed to be a celebration of reading and the authors that produce the works we love to lose ourselves in. So it was that the Association of American Publishers, the AAP, supported www.getcaughtreading.com in dedicating an entire month to being caught with your nose in a book.

Even more exciting, there are lots of celebrities and organizations that have joined in the cause! Mary-Louise Parker from the Big Bang Theory made a point of getting caught reading, and the Jim Hensen Company has used its puppets to encourage children and adults everywhere to read! Get Caught Reading Month is an important celebration for people everywhere!

Reading has helped to expand the minds of people everywhere sharing morals and spirituality, and even teaching people new skills and how to survive in situations they might not otherwise. Not to mention the ever growing library of fantasy worlds and stories to fuel our own personal mythologies and cultures. Without books, where would fandoms be?

How to celebrate Get Caught Reading Month

Well, it’s quite simple actually. You just need to dig your nose into a book and forget about the concerns of other peoples’ opinions. Take out your favorite book and read on your lunch break, take some time to read while you’re enjoying a quiet pre-work breakfast, and keep that book by your side on the bus. Who knows, you may run into other enthusiastic readers who share your passion, love your favorite authors, or may even direct you to new authors that you may love! Hug A Plumber Day 2021

Hug A Plumber Day

I have no fears that on a purely merit basis, we will have an embarrassment of riches from which to choose in order to reach gender parity.

Justin Trudeau

There’s an unsung hero that has brought us the warmth and comfort of life as we know it. Every day they work to ensure that you have water flowing to your home, that your toilet washes away the unmentionable results of being human, and that your clothes can both be washed, and take away the dirt that had soiled them. Hug A Plumber Day reminds us to sing the praises of these important men and women who make sure that modern living remains clean.

History of Hug A Plumber Day

The history of plumbers goes back to the birth of internal plumbing and sewers, and are responsible for the spread of civilization away from naturally occurring bodies of fresh water. Initially, they worked to ensure that all of the wastewater from a community was piped into the river or ocean the community was built on, but as time and infrastructure improved, they built massive pipelines that brought fresh water inland and moved sewage away to treatment plants where it could be passed into natural waterways.

The most visible, and arguably one of the most important, variety of plumbers are those who service all the homes in a community. When you have a leak in your home, you call the plumber. Is your toilet plugged and the plunger just isn’t doing the job? You call a plumber. Building a new home and need to make sure it’s all piped correctly? Plumbers are there to make sure your home will remain comfortable for years to come! Hug A Plumber Day reminds you that you have many of your modern comforts because of their tireless efforts, and giving them a hug is the least you can do to thank them!

How to celebrate Hug A Plumber Day

Hug A Plumber Day is remarkably easy to celebrate! You just need to find your local plumbers, gird yourself against the smell that often comes with such an unsavory job, and wrap them up in a big hug to thank them for doing the job that so few people will! Every time you take a shower, wash your hands, get a glass of water, or flush the toilet, you have a plumber to thank. Hug A Plumber Day is a great time to remember these heroes and the efforts they put forth each and every day.

To celebrate Hug A Plumber Day, we have special activities and deals!
